Hennafarve on the skin can be dangerous

Immigrant businesses and hennatatovører sell and use illegal paint for body decoration.

Henna and PPD

• Hennaplanten grows in Africa and India. Hennamaling became fashionable in Europe after superstars like Madonna, Naomi Campbell, Drew Barrymore and Darryl Hannah have adorned themselves in this way.
• In order to henna black is added PPD.

In Denmark it is forbidden to use or sell color body paint if the color contains the toxic compound PPD - it can cause severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face and body, blisters, sores and later scars.

But it is apparently not difficult to buy the dangerous dye for use just body decoration.

Within 20 minutes we succeeded Politiken to find an immigrant business in Nørrebro in Copenhagen, which sells black hennafarve with PPD.

Designed for hair
The text on the box with the Indian 'Godrej Black Henna "is the color most calculated to the hair, but the clerk stated repeatedly that it is also useful - and often used - to paint on the body.

The shop owner insisted that the substance was pure and without PPD - although the product label says that henna contains three percent PPD.

In four other immigrant shops bought Politiken hennafarve to body paint with very incomplete or completely missing declarations.

Strong chemicals
The 25-year-old law student Nadia Akbar, who themselves do hennadekorationer, advises caution when buying hennafarve or if you let yourself hennadekorere in shops, markets, festivals, etc:

There is henna in circulation with strong chemicals in order to make it all black, she says.

If the paint as substance is green, it is harmless. "But the color mass is very dark green and algae-like, must be careful," she advises.

P-phenlenediamin (PPD) is criticized because it is found in hair dyes - the hair, the substance shall be permitted.

Not allowed to body paint
It's the return is not used for body paint and to dye eyebrows and eyelashes.

Cand.pham. Lea Frimann Hansen, EPA explains that the Agency's control group, among others have asked intrusive questions about a so-called hennatatovør on Strøget in Copenhagen, which was suspected of using PPD containing henna - he held up because of his activities.

"We are investigating what is in the paint if we get reviews on the existence of henna tattoos with PPD. Otherwise there is a case of sample surveys, "says Lea Frimann Hansen.

Warnings
EPA warns against getting a hennabemaling with PPD for foreign travel, after considering a number of confirmed cases of severe allergies in people who have traveled in such Greece, Egypt, Gambia and Thailand.

Raised face
Consultant Brændholt Vagn Jensen Storstrom While Hospital in Naestved says he can not remember a 14-year-old boy who was hospitalized with acute dramatically swollen face.

The boy had only been a hennatatovering, so he dyed his hair black.

EPA has registered several cases of allergic reaction triggered by a henna tattoo combined with a hair dye with PPD in. It can cause allergic reactions so that the patient on a ventilator
